Girl Power! 2010 STEM Career Expo

The Women's Giving Circle's free introduction to careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for middle and high school girls attracted 500 students and their parents March 14 at the The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory.
Support for the third annual careers expo came from The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA), and Multinational Development of Women in Technology. The Maryland Space Business Roundtable was a funding sponsor of the event.
Attendees met and talked with professional women in their fields of interest, participated in hands-on STEM activities and visited displays on careers in aerospace, chemistry, computer science, engineering, geology, information technology, space science and more.
"It was exciting to see young women experience hands-on learning opportunities that highlight the contributions they can make to their family and community, and may open new doors in their future" said Diana Bailey, WGC Advisory Board Member and STEM Event Coordinator
The Women's Giving Circle is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. Among its goals is encouraging the healthy development and personal authority of young girls. WGC has founded a residential camp for middle and high school age girls, Journey, which will be held at Washington College in the summer of 2010.
