The Maryland Space Business Roundtable has given $1,000 to The
Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County to support the second annual Girl
Power STEM career expo to introduce middle and high school girls to
professional opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math.
The Maryland Space Business Roundtable is an organization that
encourages the growth and development of aerospace-related business in
Maryland.
WGC, with support from The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics
Laboratory and Math Engineering Science Achievement (MESA), attracted
approximately 400 girls and their parents to its first STEM career expo
this year. The 2009 career expo will be held Sunday, March 1, at the
Kossiakoff Center at APL.
Attendees will be offered opportunities to meet and talk with
professional women in their fields of interest, participate in hands-on
STEM activities and visit displays on careers in aerospace, computer
science, electrical engineering, geology, information technology,
science education, space mission engineering and more.
WGC is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of
women and girls in Howard County. Among its goals is encouraging the
healthy development and personal authority of young girls. WGC has
founded a residential camp for middle and high school age girls,
Journey, which was held at Washington College this summer.
