June 2009 - The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County has arranged for career materials to be donated to the Howard County Department of Corrections to benefit women detainees reentering the workforce. Among the goals of the Women's Giving Circle is increasing the life skills of women.
Members of the WGC Advisory Board collected and delivered books and other materials on career building and employment for the Life skills, Employment and Education Program (LEEP) and to the Career Corner of the library at the women's detention center.
"I found it reassuring and encouraging knowing that the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County stands ready to assist us in our mission, specifically as it relates to women and girls," said Department of Corrections Director Jack Kavanaugh.
The Women's Giving Circle is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. It has approximately 600 donors. Among its activities, WGC has established a scholarship fund at Howard Community College for women who are seeking training to improve their employment options.
