Women's Giving Circle Funds Scholarships for Women Taking Job-Related Classes

From: WGC Grants

August 2008

The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County has granted $5,000 of its 2008 grants budget to Howard Community College to fund scholarships for women taking job-related classes.

WGC is a community of women philanthropists addressing the needs of women and girls in Howard County. WGC’s grantmaking is strategic and proactive and focuses on programs that increase the life skills of women and girls, encourage the healthy development and personal authority of young girls and raise the awareness of gender disparities in the community.

“The ability to find employment and attain economic self sufficiency often depends upon education and job training, and that is why The Women’s Giving Circle established a financial aid fund for women taking job-related classes at Howard Community College,” said Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz, chair of the WGC Advisory Board.

WGC was founded in 2002 and has over 540 donors, who have pledged over $600,000 to its donor advised fund with The Columbia Foundation, Howard County’s community foundation.

Over $133,000 has been distributed by WGC to fund programs and services that address the needs of women and girls in Howard County.
