The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County is proud to amplify the voices and stories of women givers in our community through our regular series "Our Giving, Our Stories". Inspiring philanthropic leadership and increasing giving by amplifying the voices of women and girls are among the goals of this effort and we are committed to advancing this important work in our community. This August for Black Philanthropy Month we are profiling Tiffany Erbelding of Ignited Strategies. We asked what motivates her to give her time, talent, and financial resources, and she said: "People. Great things are achieved through the passions and compassions of people moved to action. Though we are all imperfect, I am always encouraged by what can be accomplished when people work together and leverage their resources for a shared purpose. I am moved to give when I see an opportunity to add my small offering to the communal pot to achieve a greater good." We asked Tiffany when she started giving to issues that are important to her, and here's what she said: "Childhood. I grew up in a family that encouraged volunteerism and sharing talents and resources to support others. While this was most applicable at our local church when I was younger, the concept of stewardship has followed me into the workplace and beyond. It is not only great power that requires great responsibility. I believe we all have a duty to steward that which we have been given to benefit the collective." And, we asked what advice she has for those interested in giving back, and she said: "Consider what it means to give beyond comfort. Not that we should neglect our priorities or act unwisely. Rather, I am reminded of the parable about the woman who was not in a position to give out of abundance - but she gave what she had. That type of giving took sacrifice. I would charge us all, myself included, to consider what it looks like to stretch into the uncomfortable when we see need around us." Here are several organizations that Tiffany currently supports: Thank you, Tiffany, for all that you do for our community! We are always accepting the names of women throughout the year who may be profiled for their inspiring philanthropic leadership.
