WGC's Young Women's Giving Circle is Raising $20K - Can You Help?

6/25/2025

The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County (WGC) hosts our Young Women’s Giving Circle (YWGC) for Juniors and Seniors in high school to learn about philanthropy, leadership, community, and specific issues like women’s health and period poverty.

We are currently seeking to raise $20,000 to support this program in the coming year.

Here's how you can help support the Young Women's Giving Circle:

  • A Gift of $500 - A gift of $500 provides a stipend for a YWGC participant for the 2025-2026 school year. We are aiming for 13 YWGC students - one for each Howard County high school. We are hoping to raise a total of $6,500 so we can fully support their gas money as they deliver products, and to show how much we value their time, talent, and resources as they spend the school year supporting women and girls in Howard County.

  • A Gift of $1,000 - A gift of $1,000 supports the YWGC's participation in the WGC's "Mini Give", YWGC members will give a $5,000 grant award to a local nonprofit partner. We are hoping to raise a total of $6,000 to fund the "Mini Give" so the YWGC can fully fund and experience impactful grantmaking as part of the "Mini Give".

  • A Gift of $2,500 - A gift of $2,500 supports the purchase of more "Break the Cycle" period product donation boxes to collect as many products as we can so that YWGC members can pick them up and deliver products around the county. We are hoping to raise a total of $2,500 to purchase all the boxes our YWGC members will need to support the period product drive.

  • A Gift of $5,000 - A gift of $5,000 supports the full program for the 2025-2026 school year. We are hoping to raise of total of $5,000 to ensure our 13 Young Women's Giving Circle members learn about philanthropy, leadership, community, and specific issues like women’s health and period poverty throughout the 9-month program.

All YWGC donor names will be recognized in WGC and YWGC marketing throughout 2025-2026.

Thank you for your consideration of support! You can learn more about the WGC's Young Women's Giving Circle here and download more info. here.
Here's the details about the YWGC program:

  • The 2025-2026 WGC Young Women's Giving Circle is a 9-month program for high school Juniors and Seniors beginning in September 2025.
  • Participants focus on supporting the WGC’s Break the Cycle: Period Poverty Drive by engaging in and learning about philanthropy, fundraising, grantmaking, leadership, and advocacy.
  • The YWGC includes opportunities such as monthly virtual educational meetings, period product drives and other support efforts, participation in the WGC’s 2026 Annual Celebration and other WGC events, and participation in the WGC’s Big Give and Mini Give 2026, where YWGC members will give a $5,000 grant award to a local nonprofit partner.
  • We are currently accepting applications through July 31, 2025 with the goal to enroll one student from each of Howard County’s 13 high schools. Those interested can apply here.
  • There is no cost to participate, and YWGC members will receive a $500 stipend at the end of the program
  • Questions? Contact WGC Advisory Board Member and YWGC Chair Paula Seabright or WGC Executive Director Buffy Beaudoin-Schwartz here.

What a day for the 5th Annual "Own Your Freedom" Juneteenth Celebration at Centennial Park! Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated on June 19 to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved people in the US.

Led by WGC Advisory Board Member Cheryl Gray, WGC Advisory Board Member Jessica Moreno was honored to be there representing the Women's Giving Circle of Howard County!

"We were excited to attend the 5th Annual Juneteenth celebration in support of WGC Advisory Board Member Cheryl Gray, and as an exhibitor and a recipient of support" said Jess. "I loved meeting so many women and providing information and a presentation about the Women's Giving Circle and the work we are doing in support of the community!"

One of the ways we celebrate Juneteenth is by coming together and giving back to our communities and we were honored to be a part of this important event.

The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County invites you to join with us to raise at least $1,000 to support our partners at Grassroots through the WGC's Emergency Response Network (ERN).

Happy LGBTQIA+ Pride Month!

The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County is proud to amplify the voices and stories of women givers in our community through our regular series "Our Giving, Our Stories".

Inspiring philanthropic leadership and increasing giving by amplifying the voices of women and girls are among the goals of this effort and we are committed to advancing this important work in our community.

This month we are profiling Abby Hendrix in Honor of LGBTQIA+ Pride Month.

Read her full profile here

What advice do you have for those interested in giving back?

"Find a cause that speaks to your heart, listen to those most affected, and stay committed even when it’s hard. Community change happens when many people take small, consistent actions. You don’t have to do everything—just do something. Giving back doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful—your time, voice, or presence can make a real impact."

Abby supports the following:

WGC is Helping to "Bring Unity to CommUNITY!"

6/16/2025

The Women's Giving Circle is excited to be a part of this year's Columbia Festival of the Arts! We'll be helping to be "Bringing Unity to CommUNITY" through the Sounds of Music with our beautifully decorated WGC umbrella that we've submitted.

We thank WGC Advisory Board Member Mary Jordan, who was excited to use her beautiful artistic skills to create the WGC's umbrella that depicts our logo, leadership, partnership, solidarity, community, kindness, love, creativity, art, music, and empowerment. Her artistry gives a special nod to WGC's "Break the Cycle" Period Product Drive, that is supporting women and girls in Howard County and that is particularly important to Mary.

"I am so excited to have created the WGC's umbrella for this year's Lakefront Umbrella Theme Exhibition!" said Mary Jordan, WGC Advisory Board Member and owner of Bra-la-la. "I think art, music, community, and philanthropy go hand-in-hand and having our giving circle be a part of 'Bringing Unity to CommUNITY' is so meaningful to me, and to all of us."

We are proud to be a part of our wonderful community and look forward to seeing you there!

WGC's Emergency Response Network - Thank You!

6/5/2025

The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County raised over $1,000 to support our partners at The Columbia Housing Center through the WGC's Emergency Response Network (ERN).

The Columbia Housing Center had a client in need of at least $1,000 in assistance to pay back rent in order to avoid eviction.

This woman is studying nursing at HCC with the goal of completing her 4-year nursing degree. She recently lost her primary job (she has a second part-time job) and at the same time, she has been trying to leave an abusive relationship.

She is behind in her rent by about $2,700 and her landlord has started eviction proceedings. Working with CHC, they have determined that she can come up with $1,700 but it leaves an outstanding balance of $1,000 that she needed to pay to halt the eviction process.

Together, we raised $1,354 to help her.

Thank you!
