Learning, Networking, Celebrating - Story #4

What?
The Women’s Giving Circle is so much more than a fundraising organization, although amplifying our impact through collective giving is certainly a key aspect of what we do.
We’re building a community of philanthropists and creating a permanent legacy to address the needs of women and girls in Howard County. That’s our mission.
And this is how we do it, by hosting events that fall under four main categories:
Simply speaking, there’s a gathering for everyone.
Offering a broad range of events invites local women to connect with the WGC in ways that are most comfortable and welcoming for them, from teas to happy hours, from lectures to discussions, from wine-tastings to book signings, and so much more.
As women and girls learn about what we do, as they meet a remarkable cross-section of our vibrant community, as they become more educated about the social issues and challenges that specifically affect women and girls, as they learn about the many ways in which the WGC is addressing those needs ... they become more and more involved.
They become connected. They become invested.
They help us grow, amplify our voices, and enable us to build a stronger, brighter future through the power of collective giving.
So What?
Over our 20 year history, the WGC has offered creative, inspirational, motivational, enriching, powerful, and fun opportunities to take part in our organization, ones that are above and beyond becoming a member by contributing financially.
During the pandemic, everything from Advisory Board Meetings to Annual Celebrations went virtual. While many events will return to in-person once it is safe to do so, others will continue to offer a virtual option when feasible, making events more accessible to a broad range of individuals regardless of schedule, transportation challenges, and personal preference.
But whether we gather virtually, in-person, or via a creative blend of the two, we recognize that there is a fundamental link between feeling connected with an organization and giving.

We’re building a community of philanthropists and creating a permanent legacy to address the needs of women and girls in Howard County. That’s our mission.
And this is how we do it, by hosting events that fall under four main categories:
- Giving: Engaging women, and at times their families, in opportunities to give to the community in a variety of ways.
- Learning: Engaging women in events to learn about philanthropy and the various issues and nonprofits that we fund.
- Networking: Bringing our members and others together to learn about the WGC and how to get involved, or further engaged in our work.
- Celebrating: Bringing our members and others together to celebrate women’s philanthropy and our collective giving.
Simply speaking, there’s a gathering for everyone.

- “As the WGC Events Committee Chair, it’s fascinating to witness firsthand the array of unique and meaningful ways to get involved. Meeting so many different women, watching their faces light up, seeing them becoming engaged, witnessing that transformation from casual attendee to active member? It’s inspiring. And it’s how we continue to build the legacy of the WGC far into the future.” - Mary Thompson

- “I appreciate WGC’s focus on the next generation, on intentionally engaging and including new leaders. Events are welcoming, fun, inviting, and easier to attend than ever thanks to their strategic use of technology.” - Alice Giles

- “I first became involved with WGC by coming to the Annual Celebration. I enjoyed myself so much I joined the Events and DEI Committees. From there I was invited to join the Advisory Board and I am now the Vice Chair of the Events committee!” - Jade McDuffie McClary, Esq.
