The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County has received a request to help with an immediate need in the community through our Emergency Response Network (ERN). Our partners at Grassroots are requesting $1,000 to help a woman in need.
A 62 year old woman who is a life-long Howard County resident experienced her house flooding last week due to the recent storms. The house flooded to the first floor because of a blocked storm drain. The fire department condemned her home and she is in the process of salvaging her belongings. She is planning to move to Kentucky with her daughter in September, but needs to stay in Howard County until her daughter can get her.
Her homeowner's insurance does not cover flooding since she doesn't live in a flood plain. The Grassroots Shelter does not have any openings for a single woman right now. Grassroots can put her up in a hotel until September 18th when she can leave for her new life in Kentucky.
On behalf of our partners at Grassroots we are asking for $1,000 to help this woman with hotel shelter. Any amount is appreciated, thank you!
