The Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County has received the following request to help with an immediate need in the community through our Emergency Response Network (ERN).
Our partners at the Community Action Council are requesting $1,000 to help purchase feminine hygiene products for women and girls in our county. The Howard County Food Bank, run by the Community Action Council, is very low on their stock of feminine hygiene products.
Earlier this year the WGC's Young Women's Giving Circle held a feminine hygiene product drive after doing research and finding that the need is easily and often overlooked:
29% of girls miss school due to lack of supplies needed.
39% cannot provide period products for themselves.
Some are forced to use towels and plastic instead of proper supplies.
Bita Dayhoff, Executive Director of the Community Action Council agrees, and adds: "Did you know SNAP (food stamps) do NOT cover feminine hygiene products? Nearly 60% of the 51,000 clients that the Howard County Food Bank serves are female! Please help us keep our shelves stocked with feminine hygiene products so we can help women and girls with this basic need on an ongoing basis."
On behalf of our partners at the Community Action Council we are asking for $1,000 or more to help women and girls in need. Any amount is appreciated, thank you!
